There are a few golf courses in/around Conway, South Carolina but only one that is centrally located (close to downtown) and only one that has been around for over 75 years - Conway Country Club!
Conway Country Club, built in 1937, is the third oldest golf course in all of Horry County! It is a quaint semi-private club that offers the general public full access as well as membership packages to local residents and for those that play a lot of golf or for those that want daily use to the pool and tennis courts in the summer. I think they are also working on a complete membership (an all-in-one) that includes both golf and the pool.
I contacted them by email back about a month ago to see about dropping by one day to take a look around and to learn more about the club and I received a reply almost immediately by the club's president, Carrie Henderson. A few emails back and forth and we were able to agree on a day and time that worked for both of us so off to the Country Club I went. Carrie was so nice! She gave me tons of information on the club as well as escorted me around to show me the pro shop, the meeting room, the lounge area, the snack-shop/restaurant area, and the pool and tennis courts area - all of which looked really nice! Some of it looked liked it had been updated. Is it all brand new? Nope! That's part of it's charm! We all love the older historic buildings and houses in downtown Conway so you kinda get the same feel out at the Country Club!
I wanted to also take a close-up look at the course so Carrie arranged to have the club's new PGA Professional Chett Long personally chauffeur me around the course in a golf cart. Chett was a super extra nice guy! He also gave me additional information on the club and the course and explained how the course was, how they made some improvements already, and what their future plans were.
Get to the golf course Joey! What's the course like Joey? Ok, Ok, I hear ya.... The golf course is actually a 9 hole course with extra sets of tee markers and tee off areas so that it can be played as a full 18 hole course. It looks really good! The tee boxes are in great shape. The fairways are in great shape. The rough grass surrounding the fairways and the grass around the greens are in great shape. Bunkers look ok. Greens need a tad-bit of work but are certainly playable. I think you will enjoy playing this course! And for the price, a round of golf here just can't be beat! Want to know the price? You aren't going to believe it! Their regular price is around $15 for 9 holes and $25 for 18 holes - all with a cart! That's a great price right! Right! However, they are running a summertime special price on 9 holes - Only $9.00! Yep, I couldn't believe it myself! It's only $9 to play 9 holes with a cart! Want to play another 9 holes and make it a full 18 hole round? Just add $6 and make it $15 to play 18 holes with a cart! Get out there and play! The course has a great layout and has 5 par 4s, 2 par 3s, and 2 par 5s allowing you to use all of the clubs in your bag! There are some tricky shots and dog-legs and you even have to watch out for some water on a few holes! It's also a real pretty course!
