CONWAY, SC (June 26, 2018) - The City of Conway will hold a dock dedication ceremony for the new dock located along the City of Conway Riverwalk on the Waccamaw River.
The new dock, located in front of Bonfire Taqueria, was installed in 2017 to connect boaters to Downtown Conway. The 100' long dock provides an opportunity for many new visitors to "tieup" and spend their day in Conway while visiting from the River.
On Monday, July 2, 2018 at 4:00 pm, the dock will be dedicated to O.A. "Rock" Rankin.
Rankin passed away on April 16, 2014. He moved to Conway in 1952 to practice law. In 1975, he became an Horry County Judge, then Special Circuit Judge where he served until 1979 when he returned to private practice. Rankin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conway, a
Mason, member and President of Conway Rotary Club and Elk's Club, and Chairman of the Horry County Democratic Party for over a decade.
Judge Rankin was known as a “people person”. While serving as judge, he would encourage jurors to bring food from home to share with the fellow jurors. He was known to greet everyone, whether known to him or not, with “Hello, Hello, Hello.” For a generation, Rock Rankin helped put the Southern Hospitality in the City of Conway.
